From time to time, I find myself in a position where I have to defend the idea that an insect can be cute. Recently, I learned of the “panda ant”, and this quite decidedly proves the existence of insect cuteness:

In truth, the name is deceiving, as this is actually a kind of velvet ant (Mutillidae), a family of wasp species that are unrelated to ants (Formicidae). But it is, nevertheless, a cute insect.
